Our Story

Our roots reach back to 1965 and the establishment of Alassia Steamship Company Ltd. From the beginning, the business aspired to risk-averse, high-quality ship management and strong relationships with first-class counterparties. Alassia NewShips Management Inc. was founded in Athens in 2009 to carry that tradition into a new era of dry bulk shipping.

Since then the company has grown deliberately rather than quickly: a modern, largely Japanese-built fleet; voluntary accreditation to four ISO standards from Lloyd’s Register since 2016; and long term relationships with major charterers that let us plan our operations, our crewing and our maintenance years ahead.

The recent chapters tell the story best. In 2023 our M/V Marathassa completed the company’s first B24 biofuel voyage with Cargill in Singapore. In 2024 we joined Hafnia, C Transport Maritime and other industry leaders in applying foundational AI to ship management. Newbuild deliveries followed from Oshima and Nakanishi, with an order book of six further vessels and deliveries extending to 2029, and in 2026 the newly delivered M/V Cymona Life was awarded QUALSHIP 21 certification by the US Coast Guard.

We proceed as we began: an innovative mindset in the service of a conservative operating philosophy, ready for the environmental and commercial challenges ahead.
